Sanil is a Local Principal in the Intellectual Property & Technology Practice Group in Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow. He is qualified in both Singapore and Australia, is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/A) by the International Association of Privacy Professionals, and serves on the Brands and Innovation Committee of the International Trademarks Association (INTA). He specialises in intellectual property, media and technology law, representing and advising local, regional and multinational clients in contentious and non-contentious matters. Sanil has been recognised as a Next Generation Partner in Legal 500 Asia Pacific for the Intellectual Property: Local Firms category. Sanil is also recommended by World Trademark Review 1000 for IP enforcement, litigation, prosecution and strategy.
Sanil has worked with actors, directors, creators, artists, and production, content, gaming and social media companies on IP and related media matters, including protection, licensing, transactions, data protection, AI, e-commerce, and regulatory issues. This includes work on contentrelated deals and licensing transactions in all media and technologies, and advising on complex copyright, moral rights and related rights questions associated with product design, content production and distribution, transactions and disputes. Sanil also handles a wide array of legal and compliance issues affecting e-commerce and marketing, particularly involving new technologies and the emerging opportunities and risk management issues presented by digital and social media platforms.
Sanil negotiates sponsorship and endorsement contracts including celebrity licensing, clears advertising for use in media, handles product placement and media production agreements and advises on regulations governing promotions, including contests, sweepstakes, charitable sales co-ventures and loyalty programs. Sanil also advises clients on planning and executing IP enforcement and anti-counterfeiting strategies, copyright and related rights disputes in the courts, rate setting tribunals, levy disputes and other ADR procedures.
