SINGAPORE, 3rd December 2024 (TUESDAY): India, Japan and host nation Singapore shared top honours with 4 wins each at the opening night of the Asian Academy Creative Awards.

Twenty one categories were awarded in competition across formats, entertainment, news, factual, kids TV, promos and branded.

Japan stunned the assembled film and TV heavyweights at the Capitol Theatre when it claimed 4 of the first 8 golden “Goddess” statuettes but it’s supremacy in the judged categories would end there. Japan’s strong contingent was further buoyed, however, by the awarding of the Asian Academy of Creative Arts “Legacy Award” to Fuji Television Networks.

India drew level on 4 wins when Prime Video scored the Best Original Production By A Streamer (non-fiction) for “Love Storiyan”.

Singapore’s 4 wins were bolstered by the acclaimed “Walk The Line” scoring two nods from the international Members of Jury. Singapore’s’ Mediacorp contributing 3 to the tally. NHK, Netflix and All3Media each took home two.

It was an impressive opening night for Warner Bros. Discovery with 5 wins, including two for CNN and Best Sound for Tom and Jerry.

Australia was forced to wait until the very last award of the night for its second “Goddess”, courtesy of “Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars” for the Nine Network. The opening award for Best Adaptation of an Existing Format (non-scripted) went to New Zealand’s “Traitors”

The prestigious awards continue on Wednesday December 4th at the Capitol Theatre with 20 categories across drama, acting, feature film. The Gala Awards are preceded by a glamorous Red Carpet event hosted by Yvette King and Mond Gutierrez.
