Andy leads Baker McKenzie’s Asia Pacific TMT industry group and the Singapore office Intellectual Property and Technology (IPTech) Practice Group. He is also the Managing Partner and Head of the IPTech Practice Group of Baker McKenzie’s Yangon office in Myanmar.

With 30 years of experience handling contentious and non-contentious matters in all areas of IP, he has acted for international clients, including many of the world’s best known brand names. Andy’s non-contentious IP experience includes IP strategy and exploitation; brand and patent portfolio management; IP licensing and assignments; trade secret and confidential information protection. Andy’s contentious IP experience covers all aspects of IP and anti-piracy enforcement (civil, criminal and administrative). Andy has an active IP litigation and international arbitration practice, with a focus on complex, cross-border disputes across a wide range of sectors. He regularly appears before the Singapore High Court, the Court of Appeal; as well as in international arbitrations under the major institutional rules, including ICC, SIAC and WIPO. He has also regularly been appointed as a mediator by the WIPO Arbitration & Mediation Centre.

Andy is recognised by several reputable global industry and legal publications as a leader in his field. He was named on “The A-List: Singapore’s Top 100 lawyers” by Asia Business Law Journal in 2018 and 2023, and is also listed as “Asia’s IP Experts 2023 – Singapore” by Asia IP Law in 2023. Chambers Asia Pacific also notes that Andy is “a well-known IP practitioner who is highlighted for his record of handling major trade mark litigation, as well as commercial exploitation of IP rights in the media and technology sectors”. He has been in the industry for a long time and has always been held in high regard. He is known to be very fair and is someone you would like to be in the trenches with you during negotiations.” Furthermore, Asian Legal Business acknowledges Andy as a leading practitioner in his field and notes that he “always gives good, quick advice, [is] client-focused and has strong technical knowledge for his areas of practice.”

In the area of IT, Andy has regularly advised on data protection and privacy matters, including several data breach cases in Singapore. Andy has also represented multinational clients on cybersecurity breaches and ransomware attacks, advising on regulatory notification obligations to the Personal Data Protection Commission Singapore (PDPC) and Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), ransom negotiations and remediation measures; as well as representing clients in making and defending consequential civil litigation claims as a result of the cybersecurity attacks.

Andy has been an appointed member of the Singapore Copyright Tribunal since May 2010 to hear copyright licensing disputes between collective management organisations and users of copyright material. He is also appointed as a Notary Public & Commissioner for Oaths in Singapore.
