SINGAPORE [Dec 4th] – Host nation Singapore stunned the competition when they collected an overall 9 golden Goddesses at the 2020 Asian Academy Creative Awards

Yeo Yann Yann claimed an outstanding victory for her universally celebrated performance on HBO’s “Invisible Stories” after Lina Ng  picked up Best Actress In A Supporting Role  for “Last Madame”, albeit by the slenderest of margins  (0.15 pts).

Local favourite Hirzi Zulkiflie  claimed Best Comedy Performance for the Comedy Central Stand Up Asia! then, Singapore marched on to claim awards for Lifestyle, Editing and Cinematography.

Hollywood based actor Chris Pang (Crazy Rich Asians and Palm Springs) graced the AAA Theatre’s grand stage to present the Best Drama Series which went to Korea’s smash hit series “Crash Landing On You”.

Miller Khan withstood a tense Tie-Breaker-round, against Fabian Loo representing Singapore, to claim the Goddess for Malaysia’s “The Bridge”. This had the pundits searching awards history sites as Miller was also up for Best Leading Actor Award. This rarest of doubles remains safe, however, with the Philippines Arjo Atayde claiming his country’s solitary gold for his stunning performance as “Benjo” in the political thriller “Bagman” by ABS-CBN.

India are always a strong performer here but relinquished top spot to Singapore having notched up 7 wins including Best Programme by a Streamer for MX Player’s “Queen”.

Korea claimed gold when Yeong Sang Ho of “Train to Busan” fame, won Best Original Screenplay for “The Cursed”.

The Awards were staged within the high-tech 3D virtual environment of the AAA Theatre, as part of the Singapore Media Festival. It was a technical production feat few in the world had attempted and even more so, the AAA’s famed Red Carpet which merged 6 remote studios and a multitude of feeds to allow celebrities from all over the region to glam it up.
