Asian Academy Creative Awards UpdatePress Releases

Streaming platforms Viu and HOOQ are among the companies to have thrown their weight behind the first Asian Academy Creative Awards which take place in December.

The awards, which only launched in July, form part of the Singapore Media Festival with AACA president Michael McKay saying he has been delighted with the response from the industry.

The announcement:

When the Asian Academy Creative Awards launched in July their clearly stated vision was to create an awards programme that was “By The Industry For The Industry”.

Based on an almost immediate show of industry support the inaugural awards look set to achieve its mission with the announcement of an impressive array of backers.

Turner’s support for the “AAA’s” has been solid from the outset. Their President of Asia Pacific, Ricky Ow accepted the Chairman of Awards and now the Asian Academy Creative Awards has announced Turner as a Foundation Patron.

Prolific OTT Platform Viu and International broadcasting powerhouse Viacom took up Foundation Patronage. AAA Ambassador for Myanmar, Dennis Breckenridge, also signed on as Foundation Patronage for Elevate Broadcast who build studios and broadcast facilities throughout Asia.

In a clear sign, the streaming platforms are taking to the platform agnostic nature of the AAA’s, leading streaming platform HOOQ confirmed they too are backing the Asian Academy’s
programmes.

It has already been reported that the Singapore Government’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) is supporting the Asian Academy Creative Awards, which are now a feature of the Singapore Media Festival.

The Awards recently released a bevvy of industry heavyweights who have accepted honorary position’s as Ambassadors including China, India, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam and the Philippines and NBCU’s Asia-Pac MD, Christine Fellowes, is the Chairwoman of the Skills Development Academy.

AAA President, Michael McKay is clearly proud of the immediate support the awards have garnered and says every day someone is coming forward and asking “what can we do to help?”

“Whether it’s taking up Foundation Patronage, entering their shows, becoming an ambassador or a judge, supporting the skills development academy or simply spreading the word, people have just been fantastic” he says.

The Asian Academy Creative Awards will be held at the historic Capitol Theatre, Singapore, on December 6-7. The National Winners will be announced at MIPCOM in Cannes, France.
